The activities we provide
Activities at Swinton Lock
Swinton Lock Activity Centre provides an extensive range of activities and support for both young and old.
All our courses are accredited as we are an approved centre for delivering AQA Basic Unit Awards and National Community Boat Handling Qualifications.
At the heart of our programme are the re-engagement activities for young people. These currently run four days per week throughout the academic year.
Fishing, Boat Handling, Construction and Mechanics, Arts & Crafts, Spraycan Art, Digital Art and Hair and Beauty are available to young people. These students are usually referred through schools or other organisations who feel a more relaxed and informal approach to education is required.
We also have a talented group of artists who run a variety of Adult Classes encompassing a wide range of skills. From Fine Art to Abstract, Pottery, Jewellery or working with Glass, Swinton Lock offers you the unique opportunity to develop your skills . Artists are invited to display their work in the onsite Gallery should they wish to.
Our service encourages and supports our young people using creative learning activities as a tool allowing them to develop new skills and work as part of a team, building on their personal and social skills and therefore giving them a sense of achievement.
We are able to do this in a number of ways;
- Through referral
- Group activity days
- Specialised workshops
Please contact the centre for more details.
